13 abrañar
Abrañar es alinear, arreglar en todas sus vertientes al ganado, no sólo el que se encuentra en las brañas, puertos o morteras, sino también el que permanece en las cortes (cuadras) de la misma aldea. A mediados de la primavera es cuando se empieza a subir el ganado escosu (que no da leche) para los puertos, estas reses suelen por regla general ser magüetas (novillas) de tres años para abajo, unas están dandu la cría (preñadas), otras son manías (que no están preñadas), luego más tarde, hacia la última quincena del mes de mayo, que es cuando ya no se pueden pacer más los préus (prados) porque sino no dan la cosecha de hierba que se recuétche (recoge) en el mes de xuliu (julio) denominado el mes de la yerbe (hierba). Así pues, cuando los prados ya no se pueden pacer, se sube al puerto todo el demás ganado, exceptuando las xunturas (yuntas) que han de acarrear la hierba, estas vacas suelen ser las bétchaes (paridas), o las que están próximas abétchadar (a parir). Es cuando llega entonces el momento de abrañar en los puertos, de ir hacer la braña. Miles de veces y en diferentes lugares de mi Tierrina, allá por los apenados y hambrientos años de la post-guerra, siendo yo un guaxetín (chiquillo), fui abrañar para los varios amos que como criadín por mala o buena fortuna yo he servido. Había que buscar al ganado que guareciendu (pastiando) se encontraba en el extenso y comunal puerto, que muchas veces era muy difícil de dar con él, por causa de la borrina (niebla), que no permitía ver a uno ni la propia mano dellantri de sous güétchus (delante de los ojos). Nos solíamos orientar por el sonido de las chuecas, chocaretas, zumbus o zumbiétchus (cencerros), que llevaban las vacas más responsables y serias por así denominarlo de cada cabana (cabaña), supuesto que estas reses suelen ser las que capitanean a todas las demás. Me recuerdo que los enormes felechales (helechos) y demás matoxus (matorrales) que eran más altos que mi cuerpo, que por doquier poblaban todo el puerto, se encontraban en los días de borrinas baxas (nieblas bajas), ameruxáus d'orbayu (llenos de agua) que me ponían de pingandu (mojado) lo mismo que si vestido me tirase al agua. Pero todo aquello era nada cuando lograba dar con las vacas, que alegraban tan difícil búsqueda, y afalándulas muy contento me dirigía hacia mi cabanón (cabaña) y después de muxilas (ordeñarlas) atizaba un bon fuéu, (prendía un buen fuego) dóu m'enxugaba la moyadura que m'enciétbechar. (Dónde me secaba la mojadura que me ataba). Una vez que estaba bien enxuchu (seco) muy dichoso me enzulaba (comía) la fugaz y sabrosa cena que tan sólo consistía, en un zapicáu de lleiche (un jarro de leche) acompangáu (acompañado) d'un cantexu de borona ou pan d'escanda. (Un trozo de pan de maíz o escanda). Chuéu, despós, endutbechábame nel xergoncín de paya, ya xurniaba toa la nuétche comu 'n anxelín del cielu xebráu de la man del sou Faedor. (Luego, después, encogiéndome en el jergón de paja, dormía toda la noche como un ángel de los cielos apartado de la mano del Hacedor). Hay vaqueirus que xuben (suben) todos los días por la mañana y de tarde hasta el puerto a hacer la braña, los que tienen corte (cuadra) en la braña, meten sus vacas dentro para ordeñarlas con tranquilidad, pero aquellos que no poseen cabanu (cuadra) tienen que buscar ordeñar al entestate (al aire libre). Casi todos los vaqueirus que tienen que catar (ordeñar) sus vacas al entestate, suelen llevar alguna couxa (cosa) de la aldea para que las vacas la coman y estén así quietas mientras las afoixinan (ordeñan), esto se llama el manoxu (manojo) que es según la época del año de diferente manera. Así en el mes de Xuniu ya xuliu ye de segáu, (junio y julio es de pación), en agosto, setiembre y octubre el manuxín (manojín) suele ser de las fuéas ya pereícoteirus de lus ñarbaxus, (plantas de maíz) y también de focháus de frisou (también de ramas de fresno), que les gusta mucho a las vacas y son muy sanas y nutritivas, así como también muy peligrosas para sous ventrones ya rumiaxes (vientres y rumiajes) si las comen demasiado calientes. Otros vaqueirus llevan sal que bazcuchan d'enría 'l campíz (vierten encima del campo) y como a las vacas les agrada todo lo sallado, comencipien a chamber (empiezan a lamer) en tal lugar hasta que terminan con todo el campizo dando tiempo a que el vaqueiru la ordeñe con toda tranquilidad. También existen otros más ingeniosos que arrebaten les ganes de mexar fasta la gora de afoixinar (que aguantan las ganas de mear hasta la hora de ordeñar) y así después meando en el campizo mientras que la vaca pace y lame el lugar meado ellos con rapidez la ordeñan. Otros vaquierus sólo hacen la braña una vez cada veinticuatro horas, bien porque sus vacas tengan poca leche, o porque les interese escosalas (secarlas) para así tan sólo subir al puerto una vez cada semana a verlas. Y hay otros vaqueirus que duermen y moran en sus cabañas de las brañas y tan sólo bajan a sus aldeas una vez a la semana. Existe la creencia entre las gentes de mi Tierra no documentadas en las ancestrales y hermosas costumbres de nuestras embrujadoras aldeas, creencia divulgada por escritores que no saben dónde tiene, pongo como ejemplo el caldar la vaca (ubre), de que en Asturias no hay más vaqueirus que los de la Alzada y no recuerdo en estos momentos qué otro lugar. Mas yo les digo ahora que esos babayus de despacho que se reúnen en cabanáes (rebaños) formando las infantiles y ridículas sociedades de «Amigos del Bable» o del «Conceyu del Bable», etc., etc., que lo único que saben es buscar una popularidad ya muxiyes la corexa a les ñobles xentes de miou Tierrina (y ordeñarles la cartera a las nobles gentes de mi Tierra). Digo que estas respetables personas lo único que saben de la Llingua y costumbres ancestrales de mi Asturias. es lo que plagian en los archivos, en los escritos de otros escritores ya fenecidos que la mayor parte de ellos tampoco en estas materias no tenían namái qu'una migayina (nada más que una migaja) de idea. Y ahora que ya para la posteridad dejo dicho lo que son estas rencuayas (ruinas) sociedades, compuestas por profesores y otras ilustres personas, que de no ganar la Guerra Civil el General Franco, de seguro que estarían de peones camineros, porque francamente creo que para otro menester ellos no sirven. Todos estos señores con sus teorías y conferencias mistificadas, no saben cómo habla el pueblo, ni como trabaja, ni cómo sufre y ríe, ni como canta y llora, las costumbres y el habla del sencillo, simple y natural pueblo, sólo se aprenden formando parte de ese pueblo que s’acueye 'l llabiegu, falandu la Llingua de nuexus mayores (se coge al arado hablando la lengua de nuestros mayores, todos los días del año). Me enseñó a ser libre y honrado, a querer y respetar a mis mayores, a no ser hipócrita ni servil, a no apartarme de la Natural Justicia hasta la muerte, y a no preocuparme mucho de las vanas leyes aunque en ocasiones injustamente las condenadas me castigasen. Me contó cientos de historias, leyendas y cuentos, me enseñó a pensar y filosofear con las cosas naturales, y todas estas maravillosas cosas yo las he aprendido, pensando y hablando en la embrujadora y galana Llingua Asturiana, por lo tanto yo conozco perfectísimamente el Idioma de mi Querida Llingua Asturiana, con el cual yo cuento a mis gentes astures cosas sencillas y naturales, de la misma manera que las he aprendido de boca de maestros analfabetos como mi querido amo Salustiano, el mejor vaqueiru que yo he conocido, el natural y sencillo filósofo que a mí sin libros, más me ha enseñado. Mi amo Salustiano, siempre se sintió muy orgulloso y ufano de sus vacas, a las que el y yo, cuidábamos en todo momento con verdadero celo y alegría, sin lugar a dudas, eran nuestras vacas las mejores de todo Asturias, y así lo reconocían todos los vaqueirus que medianamente entendían de ganado. Daba verdadero placer y envidia, mirar aquellas vacas gordas y lustrosas, todas ellas de la más pura raza asturiana. La corte (cuadra) de Salustiano estaba axeíta un poco allonxá (alejada) de la aldea, en la cimeirá (lo alto) de un praiquín (prado pequeño) que tenía m'apoxentáu (allanado), al lláu d'una fontona (al lado de una fuente) que tenía buenas aguas para abrevar el ganado. Yera una corte grandie, conun payarón que faía un par d'uce es de corcecáus de yerba. (Era una cuadra grande, con un pajar que hacía un par de docenas de rastros de hierba), y la cuadra era amplia y bien ventilada, óu s'arretrigaben nes fortes pexebréires (dónde se amarraban en las fuertes pesebreras), las diez soberbias vacas que en la sazón tenía mi amo Salustiano. Pero una noche fatídica nus fondeiráus de Ia xeronda (en los últimos días del otoño), d'aquién n'aquétcha nuétche del diañu, llantói fuéu 'l pachar, morriendu amagostáes toes les llozanes vaques del guenu de Xallustianu. (Alguien en aquella noche de los demonios, le prendió fuego al pajar, muriéndose asadas todas las lozanas vacas del bueno de Salustiano). Y aunque las autoridades del concejo hicieron todas las investigaciones precisas, nadie pudo descubrir jamás el autor o autores de tan monstruosa felonía. Algunos decían, que había sido un mal querer. Otros afirmaban que tal vez fuese un probe de lus munchus qu’apedigueñaben pe les aldés nus famientus tempus d'endenantes (un pobre de los muchos que pedían por las aldeas en los hambrientos tiempos de antes). Seguramente que el mendigo entraría sin ser visto per el boicairón del payar que nun tenía piesllítchu (por el ventanal del pajar que no tenía cerradura), con el ánimo de pasar la noche, y una vez achucáu ente la greba yerbe (acostado entre la seca hierba), diérale por fumar prendiendo fuego sin querer al pajar, y despós ameruxáu pel miéu fuyere. Lo ciertamente sucedido fue, que desde aquel trágico día, el alegre y dicharachero vaqueiru Salustiano, ya no cantó más, ni rió jamás, pues poco a poco una profunda tristeza le fue consumiendo, y meses más tarde se moría de pena, por estar pensando sin interrupción en el gran sufrimiento e inenarrable dolor sufrido por sus queridas vacas, dentro de aquel enorme incendio, que poco a poco las carbonizó, sin que nadie pudiese hacer por ellas nada. Así de humano, sencillo y natural, era mi amo Salustiano, el grande hombre, el excepcional pensador y filósofo analfabeto, el mejor vaqueiru de toda mi Tierrina, ya que muy posible fuese el único que en todo el Universo, que por el amor de sus vacas muertas en tan avernoso sufrimiento, que hizo crecer en só'anxelical ya melgueiru (su angelical y dulce) pensamiento una pena tan amamplenada (grande, enorme) que fasta'l mesmu fuexu del sou morrer tal atristeyáu l'afaluchóu.
